I do not and have removed it from my Mac. Also, for the cost of Alternate, you can get the Publishing pack add-in for Byword (on both Mac and iOS devices, so there's a bonus) and publish directly to Evernote, if you need the Markdown functionality and being above to send it to Evernote from within your note-taking app of choice.

it can also do a "distraction" free whole screen writing setup and with use of Byword, I get a far better Markdown experience and function. Also, the Evernote Mac doesn't have the gimmicky sidebar backgrounds, night-mode, etc. The default fonts are limited and some are very rarely seen (like Lato (I believe that is the name), this is the first time I have ever seen it)) the defaulted font size is massive and ugly.Įvernote, with an careful initial or revised by the user, is just as elegant, functional and natural a note-taking app unto itself. The WYSIWYG editing is active and a PITA, sorry but it is. It is (in reviews) touted as having Markdown support, but this is spotty at best and inconsistently implemented. I tried Alternate for around an hour over two separate installations via MAS and do not find in any better than Evernote's native Mac client.

Start searching just as you launch Alternote, no more focusing search field.

Thanks to its handy features, like night mode and distraction-free reading, it can serve as a good replacement for the official Evernote for Mac app. If you use Evernote to store all of your notes, to-do lists, and reminders, Alternote for Mac might prove to be a great Evernote client for you. While syncing your notes to the cloud certainly has its merits, you should also have the option to keep your data completely private and local. ConsĮvernote credentials required: From the moment you first open the app you're asked for your Evernote name and password, and there's no way to proceed before giving this information or creating a new Evernote account.

If you use this option in conjunction with OS X's full screen mode, it makes for a great distraction-free reading experience. The other option hides the notebook and notes panels, allowing you to concentrate on the open note. The first is the choice between a dark (night) and a bright (day) theme. Two display modes and distraction-free reading: The app comes with a couple of handy features. Syncing resumes like normal the next time you use the app.
Alternote app Offline#
Offline access: Despite its reliance on Evernote - an online service - the app allows you to view and edit your notes, even when you have no Internet connection. The options range from one day to 10 years.

During the Evernote log-in process you can specify how long the software should have access to your notes. The sync is completely automatic and transparent but can also be initiated manually. ProsĮvernote integration: Alternote for Mac is tightly integrated with Evernote and allows you to view and edit all of your notebooks, tags, starred, and regular notes. There is also an option that makes it easier to read at night. Alternote offers some standard text formatting features as well as the ability to read in a distraction-free environment. The app comes free of charge and features a lightweight and elegant interface that is intuitive. Alternote for Mac connects to your Evernote account to enable you to access and interact with your notes.
